Unlike you, whilst I’m not a traveller myself, I have an insight into the traveller’s lives, seeing as I have been brought up knowing them my entire life. BIg Fat Gypsy Wedding and the dresses etc. that are portrayed on the show reflect only one small side of the gypsy community, not all of them are brought up this way. No gypsy’s I know, or have ever met are like this. Fathers and brothers are protective of their daughters and families stick together. They would do anything for anyone they care about. One traveller lady I know took in a (non-traveller) friends son in and raised him, as he would have otherwise been put into care or had a terrible life otherwise. Girls do go to school and can have jobs if they want to. Ignorance is not always bliss.
